Description

The Robert Pamplin Jr. School of Business (PSOB) at the University of Portland invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level to join our finance discipline group.  The finance curriculum currently offers an undergraduate major, Master of Science program in finance, and a finance certificate within the business school. The finance group seeks a dynamic colleague to join our team.

Finance faculty members are expected to be excellent teachers, serve the university and local communities, and maintain a research program leading to publication in leading academic and practitioner journals. Finance faculty members have been very successful in building relationships with the local business community leading to teaching, research and consulting opportunities, and view this as an important part of our mission and success.

The successful applicant will have completed, or be close to completing, a doctorate in finance by the date of the appointment. Candidates from a related field may apply, but in such case, preference will be given to those applicants with business related research interests involving finance.  The successful candidate will also have demonstrated lived experience, knowledge, skills, and/or success in diversity, equity, and inclusion work within or transferrable to higher education.

Candidates must demonstrate business and technical knowledge and the ability to teach effectively in one or more of the following subject areas: real estate, financial analytics, corporate finance, investments, and banking. Strong preference will be shown to candidates with an ability to teach in multiple areas and those who have prior experience or academic preparation in real estate

The University of Portland is a private, comprehensive, Catholic university with a mission of teaching and learning, faith and formation, service and leadership.  Candidates should articulate their understanding of the university mission in their cover letter and highlight its compatibility to their approach to teaching, scholarship, and service.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until qualified candidates are identified. Pamplin School of Business representatives will plan on conducting first round interviews virtually. Preference will be given to interested applicants who submit the following materials and complete applications by November 30th, 2021:

  • Letter of interest discussing teaching and research philosophies
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Examples of research, including job market paper
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Contact information for at least three references.

Salary is competitive and employment will begin with the Fall semester of 2022. The standard teaching load is six semester courses per academic year. A background investigation check is required before final hiring procedures can be completed.

All materials should be submitted electronically (PDF format preferred) to University of Portland’s Hire Touch system. For further inquiries, contact the search committee chairs, Dr. Brian Adams, at adamsbr@up.edu, or Dr. Arjun Chatrath at chatrath@up.edu.
