Description

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Finance seeks applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Finance, available for August 2022. The successful candidate's primary teaching responsibilities will be courses in finance for undergraduate finance, real estate, and other business majors, as well as graduate-level students. Applicants seeking a balance in teaching and research responsibilities will find a collegial work environment and a faculty actively engaged and committed to the growth and continuous improvement of the Finance program.

The University’s attractive size, approximately 10,000 students, allows UNI to offer faculty, facilities, and academic choices characteristic of a much larger university while retaining a friendly, small-college atmosphere on a park-like campus. UNI has been recognized for the past 18 years as one of the "Best Midwest Universities" by U.S. News & World Report. Located in Cedar Falls/Waterloo, the park-like campus is situated on 940 acres.

The College of Business (business.uni.edu) is AACSB-accredited and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in five departments (accounting, economics, finance, management, and marketing) along with MBA and MAcc degrees. The College has 54 full-time faculty and 49 staff, and enrolls approximately 1,600 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students. The College is recognized as a "Best Business School" by The Princeton Review, listed among U.S. News & World Report's top part-time MBA programs, and was selected for the Military Times Best for Vets: Business Schools 2015. The College has a strong international presence, delivering MBA programs in Shanghai, China and maintains strategic alliances with several international business schools. The College has successfully maintained its tradition of teaching excellence while raising its scholarly profile, secured alternative sources of funding, and established a distinct strategic identity. The College boasts a significant economic outreach unit, Business & Community Services, engaging faculty and students, annually working in all 99 counties, and actively contributing to Iowa’s economic vitality.

The Department of Finance (business.uni.edu/finance) consists of 7 faculty members and over 500 undergraduate students majoring in the department. The department has a history of teaching excellence evidenced by the active engagement of our students. Faculty are committed to high quality scholarship, are recognized in their fields, and support the College’s commitment to the scholar/teacher model. The department has a successful CFA® preparation program and a financial planning program preparing students to sit for the CFP® credential, and offers the only Real Estate program in the state. The department also supports the MBA program, on campus and internationally.



Requirements

Education Requirements: Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Finance from an AACSB-accredited doctoral program.  Finance ABDs are welcome to apply with an expected degree completion date by August 1, 2022.  

Required Qualifications: A record of excellence in teaching, a demonstrated ability to produce publishable research in finance-related journals, and demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications: Evidence of the ability to create an engaged and applied classroom environment.  Evidence of ability to advance the academic, professional, and personal success of students.  Evidence of research, teaching, and/or service that positively advances issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
